    Resources for Parents

With even the most active children attending a religious education class less than 50 hours a year, it becomes clear that parents are the primary religious educators for their children. We support and encourage parents in their role as "resident theologians."

    Covenant with Parents

As a partner in the work of religious education, parents of children participating in RE programs agree:

    • To volunteer time to the RE program
    • To be present on Sunday mornings
    • To make an annual financial pledge to UUCC
    • To stay informed by reading Voices & other church mailings
    • To respect starting and ending times of classes
    • To strive for regular participation
    • To communicate with teachers, CYRE team & staff

    Child and Youth Protection Program

A comprehensive set of policies, procedures, and rules is in place to guide all activities within the church involving children and youth. When this safety program was updated in 2009, short summary documents were prepared for each "area of interest." This allows interested persons to focus on those areas impacting them or their children. These can be downloaded here.

All volunteers in positions that place them in regular contact with children or youth must agree to a criminal background check. Any questions or reports should be made to the RE Director.

    Supervision

All children and youth 8th grade and younger are required to have an adult on-site responsible for them at all times during the morning. This is not a requirement for high school youth.

    Weekly Class Summaries

We believe parents are best able to support their children's Religious Education experiences if they know the topics covered in the RE classes each week. As such, we ask our classroom teachers to to hand out a summary of that morning's class each Sunday to parents.

Our Middle School advisors send the parents of the youth in their class a weekly "Wednesday Wake-up" which advises parents and youth of plans for that weekend.
