    Stewardship

"Stewardship" is often an overworked term particularly in churches or faith communities.  Yet, at its core, the term refers to making sure that the benefits offered by the UUCC are available both now and in the future.  Developing and maintaining a stream of resources which will enable us to reach out to the wider community and to provide for our own needs is the ultimate goal of any stewardship effort.

Our congregation must have your support in order to be able to function.  Without your serious commitment, it is impossible for us to provide ministry, offer programs, extend support or nurture ourselves.  Your pledges of support provide the foundation for our annual budget.  Without knowing pledges, it is impossible for us to predict what our income will be in a given year.  Our bylaws only require "a contribution of record at least annually," but the making of a pledge and the need for formal commitments is obvious.

Carefully consider what this congregation and the programs we offer mean to you, your family and those close to you.  We ask that you consider a contribution of 5% of your gross household income as an appropriate amount.  This "discounted tithe" reflects the reality that your support is also needed in the larger community and that the remainder of a traditional 10% tithe should go there.

This year, we have the opportunity to not only be generous and to cultivate our own increased generosity but also to give to something that contributes so substantially to the greater good.  These are times in which our church and our community need us and what we offer more than ever.  To support and advance our own values we need, particularly in this year, to get very serious about our giving.

During our annual Pledge Campaign we ask our members to pledge a financial amount to support our church. Once you’ve determined the total amount of your pledge, you can pay it monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, or in one lump sum.

In addition to a pledge, there are other ways in which you can contribute to the UUCC.  Many of these are described in How to Make a Contribution. In whatever form it takes, however, your support is needed for this congregation.  Please respond generously to make sure that the beacon of liberal religion continues to shine in the greater Charlotte area.

    Charitable Tax Status
The UUCC is an IRS-qualified 501(c)(3) and 170(c) charitable religious organization. The UUCC tax-exempt federal identification number is 56-6056289. For estate tax purposes, bequests, legacies, devises, or transfers to the UUCC or the Trust are deductible as they are in accord with the provision of the Internal Revenue Code Section 2055(a) and related regulations.
