Here are some of the ways the UU Church of Charlotte tries to make a difference in our community:
RAIN (Regional AIDS Interfaith Network) is a community resource providing compassionate care for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS, and prevention education for our region. They deliver these services through Care Teams. More information about RAIN can be found at their website www.carolinarain.org. Contact Rita Heath-Singer for details: jsinger@carolina.rr.com
The UUCC and Red Cross are making blood donation as easy as questioning your religion! Please join us for our six-times-a-year Cotswold Community Blood Drive held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte. Roughly every two months, we partner with the American Red Cross, Harris Teeter and Wolfman Pizza at the Cotswold Village Shops. Harris Teeter donates vegetables trays and Wolfman Pizza donates several pizzas for each blood drive.
The next two blood drives are scheduled for August 10 and October 12. About four weeks before each drive, you will be able to find a table set up in Freeman Hall where you can schedule a time that works for you. You can also click here and schedule online. Our sponsor code is 2636. Contact Brian Trainum for more information.
Charlotte is the home of the largest CROP walk in the country. An interfaith effort, it’s a 10K walk in October with 10,000 participants raising money for the hungry in Charlotte and the rest of the world. Learn more at www.cropwalk.com. Contact: Cindy Fox, 704-554-0866.
Our church maintains a relationship with the Unitarian Church in Szabed, Romania, as part of the Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council, an affiliate organization of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). The goals of our Partner Church Committee include educating the congregation about the history, current affairs, and needs of our partner church; conducting fundraisers to benefit our partner church or its ministry; maintaining a relationship that provides moral and spiritual support (solidarity); and assisting UUCC members in visiting our partner. To get involved, contact Kathleen Carpenter at 704-366-8623.
Our church is a proud sponsor of our city’s annual festival supporting the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) community. We have an information table and strong turnout at this event.
These organizations are supported by our church and during the year they are given the opportunity to tell us about their mission. We also encourage our members and friends to personally support these organizations. They are:
