    Special Interest Groups and Gatherings

For information on any of these groups, e-mail the UUCC office or call 704-366-8623

    Jabberwocks

A poetry group that meets the third Friday of each month from 10 am to noon in the library. Contact the Church Office for information.

    Moneybaggers

Fellowship of participants who care about and are connected to each other through an interest in investing in the financial markets. All are heard, included and respected. Meets every 4th Tuesday of the month, 7:30-9:00 pm, in the Work Room. Contact: Bill Cooke, 704-364-2107, billcooke@mindspring.com, or Mary Traynham, m_traynham@yahoo.com, 704-537-4691.

    Outdoor Adventure Group

The UUCC Outdoor Adventure Group is a group of church members who enjoy hiking and being outdoors. We are open to friends, visitors, and families of all types. Hikes are planned once a month and vary in location and level of difficulty. Each May the group has its Annual Mother's Day Canoe Trip to the New River. The UUCC Outdoor Adventure Group is a community building activity that allows one to not only enjoy the great outdoors but to feel a connection to other UUCC members through a pleasant, relaxing, and joyful walk in the woods. All are welcome, even beginners! If interest grows, other outdoor activities may be considered and planned. Rita Heath-Singer, 704-364-6333, jsinger@carolina.rr.com.

    SLUGS Softball Team

With a modicum of coordination, you may be ready to play on the church softball team, the UUCC SLUGS. All that’s needed is a glove, a good sense of humor and a willingness to tolerate a group of people still trying to relive their youth. The team plays about 10 evening games once a week, Mon-Thurs, starting in April with practice beginning in March. We welcome anyone over the age of 16. Contact: Mike Long, 704-543-4880, mikelong@shortalert.com.

    Theater Group

Each year a satirical review called The Follies is inflicted upon us by a talented group of writers and performers who know the difference between good taste and bad taste, and how to ignore it. Contact: Mic Elvenstar, 704-362-3105, dearmic@earthlink.net.

    Yoga

Nourish your body, mind and spirit with hour and a half Kripalu yoga session that includes relaxation and centering through breath work and meditation. Appropriate for all levels including beginners. Meets Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Contact: Bill Cooke, 704-364-2107, billcooke@mindspring.com.
