Religious Experiences for Children and Youth

Our Children and Youth Religious Education program (CYRE) provides our children, ages preschool through high school, with the tools they need to make up their minds about life’s big questions. We prepare them for a lifetime of spiritual and ethical growth by teaching them the Unitarian Universalist Principles and Sources, exposing them to other faiths, providing experiences of a spiritual nature and encouraging in them a questioning attitude. Our religious education classes occur during regular services, but we do occasionally offer opportunities for families in worship.

Our Director of Religious Education for Children and Youth, Kathleen Carpenter, invites you to join her in discussions about parenting/spiritual issues – especially as they relate to our congregation – through her blog.

For Children and YouthRegistration

We ask all families, member and non-member, to register for our 2016-17 CYRE Program.   We encourage visitors to register after three visits.  Our goal is to keep everyone informed and connected.

For Preschool and Elementary Children

Religious education classes are offered Sunday mornings from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., extending 15 minutes longer than each of the morning services. We offer classes for 3-year-olds through 4th grade during our 9:15 a.m. service. During our 9:15 service, 5th-graders attend the middle school class. We also offer classes for 3-year-olds through 5th grade during our 11:15 a.m. service. Special programming, social events, social justice and community outreach opportunities are also available to children and families throughout the year.

For Middle School Youth

We offer religious education classes for 6th-8th grades during both sessions, 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please note that each session extends 15 minutes longer than each of the morning services. Special programming, social events, social justice and community outreach opportunities are also available to youth throughout the year.

For High School Youth

High-schoolers attend religious education classes during our 11:15 a.m. service. Their class ends at 12:30 p.m., 15 minutes after our second service ends. Special programming, social events, social justice and community outreach opportunities are also available to youth throughout the year.

For Babies and Toddlers

We provide a nursery for children up to age 36 months during both our 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. services. Our paid caregivers follow strict policies and procedures. We ask that parents review our policies and procedures for parents and additional information before using the nursery for the first time.
